Things To Know About Our School

  • The school currently has more than 250 students grade 3-4
  • Computers are available to all students.
  • We have Smart Boards in every classroom to facilitate learnings.
  • We utilize ELMO document cameras to enhance learning in our science lab, as well as within our classrooms.
  • Students utilize multi touch computer tables, enabling multiple students to work together on projects, activities, and to complete assignments.
  • Student's utilize Chrome Books to enable them to take their work throughout the classroom, and work cooperatively with other students.
  • Many teachers utilize ClassDojo for classroom management and parental contact.
  • We have an amazing handicapped accessible playground to facilitate active play and health.
  • We have a baseball field for use by students during school hours and district/town sports during afterschool hours.
  • We offer afterschool enrichment activities and clubs to keep students engaged.
  • Every class goes on several field trips each year to increase learning, and assist in broadening worldview.
  • We have a completely renovated science lab which classroom teachers use to teach the scientific method, conduct experiments, and test theories.


Metacomet School is located in Bloomfield, Connecticut, and is part of the Bloomfield Public Schools System. We serve over 250 students in grades 3 and 4.

There are seven 3rd grade classrooms and seven 4th grade classrooms within Metacomet. Additional enrichment classes include art, music, physical education, media center instruction, STEAM, and technology. We also have support staff in the areas of reading, special education, speech/language, psychology, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. Metacomet school has a full-time nurse, and a student family assistance center in order to assist students and families. We have a home-school liaison to assist in building the relationship between parents, students, and the community.

New students are always welcome at Metacomet school. We invite parents to come and see our classrooms, and how we utilize technology and effective teaching strategies along with the common core curriculum standards to provide students with the foundations they need to continue on to 5th grade, and college and career readiness.

The Bloomfield Public Schools mission statement to become a "high-performing district with a positive climate of inclusion, an expectation of competitive academic achievement and a culture of meaningful parent and community engagement" rings true at Metacomet school, where we invite all students to take part in both academic and nonacademic activities to gain the best education possible and to not only live up to expectations, but to exceed them.

Bloomfield Public Schools Theory of Action: The Bloomfield Schools will successfully implement a comprehensive and collaborative accountability system characterized by data-supported planning and decision-making practices at every level, leading to adult work that will be strengthened throughout the district. As a result, learning for all students will substantially improve and be sustained over time.
